It holds back from opening up offensive slots early, so you can get to grips with what each collection of abilities offers, whether they’re basic, core, defensive, or specialized to your class.įat Kratos was my first Druid, and I still think about him every day. The skill tree–something most games still struggle to get right, whether it’s Final Fantasy X or WRC10–is intuitive and clear, with an understandable, zig-zag progression with your levels. From minute one–including its excellent overviews– Diablo IV comfortably guides you without coddling you, setting out strengths and weaknesses to tailor to your playing style and, crucially, giving you a reason to try something new.
I’d dabbled before, but always quickly found them to be too overwhelming and demanding. Despite my Barbarian heritage, I finally plucked up the courage to try out Rogue, Druid, and Sorcerer classes. What’s more, character choice is impressive and nicely balanced, bringing elements of past classes like Amazon, Assassin, and Wizard into five compelling and diverse choices. The world feels lived in, despite the obvious abundance of undead monsters. It all feels so carefully crafted: every interaction, every movement, every attack, every foe. The game’s gory, gorgeous cutscenes soon give way to simpler but dependably smooth and detailed in-play graphics.
